Using her video camera and journal Margie records each day's experience in an effort to learn more about herself. The result is a highly personal and emotional testimony about sailing alone, for 18 days, through fair and foul weather, with only one's thoughts, boat, and the ocean for company.
ABOUT MARGIE
Margie describers herself as a writer, artist, schemer, dreamer, portrait photographer, aspiring filmmaker and an obsessed sailor. "Sailing soothes my soul and brings me the greatest solace I have ever known. I have been sailing most of my life, and am always pushing myself to do and learn more on the water." Margie is passionate about inspiring more women to learn to sail and seek adventure through sailing.
Margie was taught to sail by her Dad, himself a lifelong sailor. Learn more about Margie, her family sailing history, and future sailing plans at https://www.sailinghaunani.com.
ABOUT THE BOAT
"Haunani" is a 1988 Catalina 34 named after Margie's mom. Margie spent 8 months preparing the boat and herself for the 2016 Transpac to Hawaii. Sadly Haunani was destroyed by the shipping company on her journey home to California following the Transpac.
FUTURE SAILING ADVENTURES
Margie's current boat is a 2005 Hanse 371 named "Cassiopeia". She is working on more films about women and sailing. Follow these stories on Margie's blog, Sacred Horizons, as they develop at http://www.sailinghaunani.com/blog-2.
And watch them here on SAILFLIX.
Margie's next major solo sailing event is the 2020 Shaka Challenge, PSSA’s singlehanded transpacific race. Learn more at http://www.pssala.com/
